Music for Two Organs: Michael Messina and Kevin Jones – Oct 25 – livestreamed


On Reformation Sunday, Oct 25, at 4 pm, a concert of music for two organs will be live-streamed from the First Church Nave. Organists Michael Messina and Kevin Jones join forces to present music by Handel, Calvin Hampton, Herbert Howells, Leo Sowerby, and others.

Michael Messina is Director of Music at Trinity Episcopal Church, Indianapolis, a position he has held for more than 23 years. He holds MMus and DMA degrees in Organ Performance and Literature, as well as the Performer’s Certificate, from the Eastman School of Music. Michael was graduated magna cum laude with the BMus degree in Church Music from Saint Olaf College, where he sang and traveled extensively with the Saint Olaf Choir. Michael has performed solo and duo organ concerts extensively throughout the United States, as well as at the Cathedral of Notre–Dame de Paris. Michael has served as President of the Association of Anglican Musicians, co-Chair and faculty of the Leadership Program for Musicians Serving Small Congregations in the Diocese of Indianapolis, and Dean and Treasurer of the Rochester and Indianapolis chapters of the American Guild of Organists, respectively. For the past several years, Michael has participated in the Indianapolis AGO’s Pipeworks program, an interdisciplinary curriculum presenting the organ and its repertoire to primary and secondary school students.

Kevin Jones is Minister of Music at First Church, a post he has held since 2013. He has held similar positions in Hartford, Connecticut, Westchester County, New York, and New York City. From 1996 to 2004, Mr. Jones held the post of Musical Director and Conductor of the New York City based Gilbert & Sullivan ensemble, the Blue Hill Troupe, Ltd. With that ensemble he made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut with Skitch Henderson’s New York Pops Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked as assistant to conductor Anton Coppola on the operatic stage. He has worked as vocal instructor and vocal coach at the Hartt School of Music.
